The U.S. now has over 1,000,000 average publishers - Why?
by truthseeker instrange increase in u.s. publishers
over the last few months there has been an unusual increase in publishers in the united states, but baptisms have been falling.
when baptism rates are compared to the 2004/05 service year, only 4 out of the six months shown are higher than 2005/06 service year.

A famous caveat should be noted here: Figures do not lie, but liars figure.
I like that! ** writing it down **
How the Society lies about publisher figures, or numbers, is the way I have found they lie about child sexual abuse in the organization, blood transfusions and other doctrinal matters: Yes, they use misrepresentation, falsification, distortion, twisting, slanting, fiddling, fabrication, and deception. But, worst of all, they use half truths!
Lord Alfred Tennyson said in 1864: That a lie which is half a truth is ever the blackest of lies; That a lie which is all a lie may be met and fought with outright; But a lie which is part a truth is a harder matter to fight.
And that folks is precisely what honest critics of the Watchtower Society are up against--half truths--when we try to show our loved ones the truth about "the Truth."
BarbaraWell said, Barbara. You should write a book (or have you already? curious minds want to know.)

People believe in the existence of God. They do not know that God exists, because God's existence hasn't been proven.
FunkyDerek.... I totally believe that according to your experience, what you say is true....for you.

My only concern with the growth of Mormons vs. JWs is that I thought Mormons could baptize dead friends and relatives. If that's true then the numbers won't make sense when compared to only living jws.
uhhhh, the Mormon numbers reflect only LIVING people. I think if the Mormons factored in their baptism for those that have passed on the figure would outdo the Catholics.

How a JW was instrumental in deconverting me from Mormonism
by Noggin ini used to be able to state, with clear emphasis... and a straight face, that i knew the mormon church was god's only true church on the face of the earth.
i used to be made up of a highly
polarized mormon mind set

Welcome Noggin. It's nice to have person who has been a Mormon. I have many Mormon friends and have been to their congregations. Although some of their doctrines are rather odd, as a people, I really enjoy being around them. (I like their social functions, especially the softball games and bar-b-ques). Even though you're "out" of the religion, it will be nice for someone who was once a member to chime in once-in-a-while and dispell some of the crazy misconceptions people have about Mormons....

A Stumbling Block to Faith
by Crispus ini posted this on a couple of other boards but as so far no jw has responded to the points i made.
"god disposed of jesus' body, not allowing it to see corruption and thus preventing its becoming a stumbling block to faith.
" the watchtower, november 15, 1991 page 3 if god had an angel roll the stone away from the tomb and created different bodies for jesus "over 500 witnesses actually saw jesus alive following his resurrection, and his faithful apostles were eyewitnesses as he began his ascent back to heaven and then disappeared from their view in a cloud.

I asked my JW friend "Well if Jesus didn't have a physical body when He was resurrected, what did doubting Thomas touch, when Jesus commanded him to do so to prove he was not a spirit?" my friend's look >>>>> then changing the subject....

Steak sauce for breakfast? What do you eat it on? .... oh wait, I seem to remember when I was in London, I ate the
yukiestwhitest sausage (banger?) I'd ever seen..... yep, that would be perfect for it... it would kill the taste. Here in Southern California (Northern Mexico), we don't do ketchup.... it's hot salsa or nothing!

Going to the gym of dieting
by pratt1 inwere you ever counselled about spending too much time going to the gym of trying to keep fit?.
it happened to me as a ms, this one elder in my hall said that the time i spent going to the gym could have been better spent out in field service.. i replied that based on all the stress in my life, if i didn't go to the gym for therupeutic purposes, i would problably go postal on some busy body in the hall.. he never brought up the subject again.. my mom was counselled once for being preoccupied about her diet.
she really wasn't but she wanted to maintain her weight at a health level and not become overweight.. we had quite a few of nearly obese people in our hall.

Actually, yes I can......
1 Corinthians 6:19-21 (NIV)
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

greetings from another newbie
by lost_sheep inwell... i've finally worked up the courage to get an account & start posting on this site.
i've been lurking for a couple of months now, voraciously reading all the, mmm, "delightful words of truth" i've found here.
i'm currently deep in dubdom, so i have to be pretty ambiguous about some personal details, (i'm really paranoid, hopefully that will pass :-/) but my story in a nutshell is: i was born into this religion, baptised in my mid teens, happily married to a wonderful (& thankfully, somewhat open-minded) jw lady, & now, several years later, i'm starting to seriously question some of what i believe.
